Community Tasting Notes 5

March 8, 2024 - Tiring. Dark in the glass with just a touch of mahogany at the rim. Some dark fruits with some blood orange citrus lift a little underbrush begins to poke through with air. Something iffy here... Argh. Mild TCA (again)

March 21, 2022 - 95 Bordeaux @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Initial sense of richness on the nose, fruitcake and maturity, but then a slight edge, and on the palate horribly corked.

June 14, 2019 - Fantastic showing. Medium garnet red, secondary and tertiary notes of canned Queen Anne cherries, sasparilla root, old books and Grandpa's man cave. Almost no sediment, improved as we sipped it, no fade.

May 25, 2012 - I have no idea where or when I bought this wine. A single bottle left to its own in the cellar. In an effort to do a bit of spring housekeeping, i am purposefully bringing up older, less pedigreed wines to consume now rather than have them sit any longer.
An '85 Simard drunk earlier in the evening was a surprising hit. And, the Mazeris did not disappoint either.

Want to know the acid test for the drink-ability of an older wine? Serve it to twenty something males. Wines that suggest an elderly uncle with slightly off aromas will be left with barely a sip taken out of the glass. Listen closely as you hear the refrigerator door in the kitchen open as they grab a beer instead. Well, in this case, the Mazeris accompanied the boys as they left the table to watch game six of the Rangers- Devils playoffs. That should tell you something!

December 20, 2010 - It was a bit lighter than expected, but it had a good start and it opened over the hour we enjoyed it
