August 13, 2023 - Nose: smoke, spices, musk, game, wet earth, candy
Notes: Groffier has always been a safe choice and rarely disappoints and this 2001 BM was no exception. Compared to other Groffier I've had in the past I feel this wine shows a bit more of the darker aromas but it's equally intense and complex. Quite an exciting Bonnes Mares and this particular bottle has aged perfectly and is drinking deliciously now.

December 20, 2022 - This pours light ruby in the glass with a watery rim and light bricking. The nose is just lovely showing red currant, orange peel, rose petal, dry rustic soil, dried ginger, star anise and bay leaf. The palate is immaculately balanced with low dusty tannin, medium acid and a medium plus finish showing orange pith, red currant and bay leaf. All in all this is a lovely maturing burgundy experience. Very elegant. It’s not terribly mature yet so I would mind tasting again after another 10 - 20 years to see it at full maturity.

July 2, 2022 - Good to try this tonight. Its resolved, integrated and perfumed. Everything is in the right place. Palate is silky and feminine with charming sweetness. Drinking beautfully at its youthful peak.

August 3, 2021 - Now mature, this is solid if not spectacular Burgundy. Ruby color with a pink rim. Dark berries and dry summer brush. Integrated palate that has a nice feel but maybe lacking the flavor depth I was hoping for. The wood has been absorbed. Really lovely just not exciting. (91)

January 21, 2021 - should have read my note from two weeks ago... this was again -- after two hours in decanter -- still tight... and stayed that way over the two hours we drank it... all the stuffing there, should have waited more for this baby to blossom I think (either more decanting, or more years in cellar)... sadly my last, so I will never know for sure
