December 1, 2018 - Good amount of fine grain sediment. Decanted for about an hour. Paired with lamb and homemade flatbread with truffle cheese, pancetta, mushroom and chipotle. Nose is delightful... Smells like candy and Christmas. Palate... Embraces your whole mouth. Can't taste the alcohol at all. very easy to drink. Elegant. Red fruit and cassis. Hey smooth. Yum!

November 2, 2018 - Tasted next to the 2002 Rauzan Segla, and (predictably) strikingly different. Benefitting from a riper vintage, the wine is still fairly primary and requires a good hour of decanting to open up. More 'new world' than nuanced, however, displaying dark fruit and licorice. A well crafted wine, better made than the '02 RS, but the RS was more memorable, albeit more imperfect. Didn't see much soul to this wine, at least at this time.

October 2, 2015 - Purple and dense, from a low yielding vineyard no doubt. Nose of salt, flour, asphalt, blackberry, black cherry, thyme. Palate of very dusty black chocolate, sea salt, silicon, chalk, limestone, black cherry, cassis. Very thick, rich, full, but not as voluptuous as the greater vintages (2005, 2009, 2010). This is the fitth vintage of Gracie that I consider more hyper-classical than avante garde. The influence of Vautier (Ausone) is very evident, much more than Thunevin (Valandraud). If you want something more modern, juicy and smooth in the direction of Valandraud, get the second wine of Gracia, Les Angelots. The first wine is much more chiselled, like a classic sculpture. Give it another 5 years, and it will probably be as good as a 92/93/94 Ausone. Which is saying alot. Wish I had a few young daughters to tend the vineyards in central Saint Emilion. Michel is a lucky guy. This is skyrocketing juice.

November 3, 2013 - Some great wines to help Public Television (WVIZ World Series of Wine Seminar): Wow. Right off the bat, this is stunning. Ruby/purple in color. Raspberries, cherries, slightly candied on the nose. A bit of cigar tobacco. dark cherries on the palate. really long finish. Complex and starting to show some development. Drinking really well right now. My WOTD (although some might get better than this over time).
