Community Tasting Notes 3

April 16, 2017 - Non-descript on the pop-n-pour. But an hour later, after I was done cooking the Easter dinner, finally sat down to enjoy it, finished off the salad, and got about two bites or so into the grilled grass-fed NZ lamb loin chops - this thing just burst open with a mouthful of cherry cough syrup, in an entirely pleasant and intriguing way. Not overly complex - but quite interesting.

August 1, 2014 - Decanted, needed a bit of air to come into its own. The nose had nice aromas of dark cherries and the palate follows with medium tannins, nice cherries and good acidity. A very enjoyable wine, but again I am not convinced that Teran shows any sense of place. This could be a nice CdR, for instance. But good it is in any case!

April 26, 2013 - Dark bright magenta-red. Certainly looks right! But far too "international" in style. Bouquet rather overdone, and very extracted/winey - could be any number of grapes and places. Palate needs less sweetness and even less body and a whole lot more blood, iron and acid, and freshness. If you swirl it round the mouth and concentrate you can pick up on the region. A bit hard-going though. Loads of grip here, too assertive. This stuff is meant to cut through air-dried ham, pungent hard cheeses and pate-type food, not conspire with them to sate the palate. It isn't working for me. Too rich, too much alcohol and extract? (13.9% in this 2011, but 12.6% in 2010)
