May 10, 2021 - Notes after following for 6 hours open. Light cran-ruby color, good shine and clarity with a nearly pristine cork (a bonus in the MI world).
Warm corn tortilla, roasted nuts, perfume, lead/graphite, ‘shrooms, and leather jacket in the bouquet. I’m no Burg expert, let alone Volnay, so I can’t speak as to whether this is terroir-reflective or not. It is an interesting wine, if not particularly seductive or magical, but that’s kind of been my experience with this infamous winemaker. Every bottle is a unique adventure. Sometimes, it’s actually wonderful. This bottle was walking a line somewhere between mediocre and good. It also didn’t seem any worse for wear and might actually see better days ahead.

October 22, 2017 - A bit disappointing, thin and not very fruity

October 3, 2016 - This is falling apart quickly. Drink up or consider freezing your remaining bottles so they don't turn into vinegar by 2017.

March 29, 2016 - Enjoyed this bottle next to a Carneros Pinot Noir of same vintage. What a contrast. The color was a pale red. Aromas started revealing after half an hour or so, lovely cherry and cherry cola with soft oak tones and reticent spice/herb. What made this bottle so enjoyable was the mouthfeel and the finish. Full almost creamy mouthfeel, extremely smooth and long almost velvety finish. For me this was a winner here.

The guests with whom I shared this bottle are used to California Pinot and they said so. They found it to be light in almost every sense. Light color, light fruit and light oak. The very explanations that I found so appealing about this wine. I thought it went fabulously with filet mignon.
