Community Tasting Notes 5

December 5, 2021 - Vinetasters: Brown Bag (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Clearly a very mature wine with a pronounced floral element as well as some cedary/wood shaving notes. I was actually thinking 1970s Rioja. Not dirty at all (rules out Cordier) but there are still some notes of desiccated red fruit here. Tart, but not overwhelmingly so. Overall very beautiful aromatics.

May 30, 2021 - A 65th Birthday Celebration, Slightly COVID Delayed (EL Ideas - Chicago IL): Lots of cigarbox and fully mature black cherry with at least much earth. Very tasty, charming and classic. yum.

August 12, 2018 - IPNC Van Duzer Group Rapid Reunion (Chez Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN): Light medium bricked red color. Splash decanted and drank 1 glass over an hour. After a first bottle was completely gone, this bottle was in fine shape. A nice perfume of red berry nose, nice purity, dried flowers; tasty, soft red fruits, completely resolved tannins. A nice treat.

December 9, 2016 - Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Light medium orange brick color. PNP, drank a very small pour from the end of the bottle, and I'm grateful to have had a chance to try this. I don't know that I had enough to really examine it, but what i had was surely pretty and resolved. I'm always excited by the opportunity to try these old bottles. They can just be a delight. This has a lot of sediment that I caught at the end with my last pour so that may have had an impact. Very earthy, loamy, lovely dried red fruits, light body, light cherry, and balsamic note on the end. Very pretty. 93+/94(?), maybe underscored based on circumstances. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

December 9, 2016 - Wow, this was fun and, my birth year too! Thanks Jason for bringing this to our annual holiday party! Sometime, long ago this once was Bordeaux. The wine I drank tonight was Burgundy :). IMO, as these great red wines age from various regions, they all, sort of eventually, become Burgundy. This wine is the poster wine for FINESSE! Utterly resolved with soft autumnal flavors and aromas that are as subtle as its almost clear, barely crimson color. Weightless delicacy extraordinaire! I took the empty btl home. Just like the wine its covered with a fascinating patina.
