Community Tasting Notes 1

June 18, 2013 - Piedmont 2013, Day 2 - Visit to Barale Fratelli / Lunch at Locanda in Cannubi (Barolo, Piedmont, Italy): I thought this was quite nice. The nose showed a rather attractive mix of black fruit and flower aromas along with touchs of herb and spice and a little toss of soil. Ripe on the palate, it came across with lots of primary, ripe, sweet fruit on the attack - sweet cherries and berries I thought - but these were nicely lifted by juicy acidity into a slightly spicy finish. It may be a bit much by itself given the big, ripe fruit, but this actually went great with a whole series of Piedmontese dishes, with the nice acidity keeping the wine really juicy and fresh as it played a foil to the meaty morsels.
