Community Tasting Notes 12

February 7, 2022 - Decanted 30 minutes before service. In the glass, clear dark magenta, shading rapidly to opaque dark magenta-maroon at the core. On the nose, currants, plums, and blackberries. On the palate, mature dark fruit, anise, and a tiny bit of unresolved tannin that pops out on the long finish, but it's hard to argue that more cellar time will be fruitful, and the wine is in a nice place right now. Drink up.

January 23, 2022 - Pop and pour but needed an hour of air to clean up. This is still drinking well but not going to improve from here; tannins are soft and the flavors are well integrated. Great effort for 2011, last of five bottles.

August 28, 2021 - Decanted for an hour, but this was singing right out of the gate. Ripe blackberry, black pepper, bacon fat, black licorice, garrigue and a dollop of oak all commingle effortlessly. Tar notes advance mid-palate, and there's just enough acidity to keep it feeling fresh. Only knock is a green/stemmy bitterness that emerges on the finish - might have to do with the cool vinatge. Otherwise, this is truly outstanding.

October 16, 2020 - Decanted one hour. This is showing beautifully with dark, savory fruit, anise, twigs, rustic tannins. A lovely cool-vintage Syrah. Seems like it's at peak.

    April 27, 2020 - Limited notes.
Round opulent style but still great acid - don't always find that in Sanguis.
Layered finish with dark plums, anise, some sweet baking spice.
Very nice. One of the better if not best Sanguis bottlings imho.
