July 16, 2023 - From 750ml. AP #21. This has been open for hours and not cold. Spicy and kumquats and horseradish on the nose. Some apricots. Almost molasses. Smoky and apricot and spicy on the palate - more grippy and explosive. Smoky and sweet and spicy on the finish. So good. Thanks Zak! Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20.

March 19, 2023 - Beautiful and complex wine. The cork disintegrated as I opened it. Almost orange in color. A lovely combination of stone fruits, vanilla and spices.

May 18, 2021 - Day 3. I took this to Riesling study #5 on Sunday and brought a bit home. Now I can focus on it. Lovely nose of apricots, kumquats, some peach, some smoke and bacon, chili peppers, candied orange peel. Paprika. Very piquant. The palate is lovely. Not really a dessert wine anymore but fragrant and complex with spices, apricot, mandarin, florals and a bit of honey and chili peppers. It's elegant and perfumed, with superb lift and cut but somehow gentle as well. The finish shows chilis, apricots and some stones. Really lovely. Nose - 5-5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17-17.5/20.

September 22, 2019 - Lunch at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): #21-91, 11% abv. Who ever heard of an 11% auslese? That HGS guy really knows what he's doing though. The nose for me is a little better than palate; showing a slight hint of petrol, but also a lovely mix of dried fruits ranging from apricots to figs. Not quite as complex on the palate, with a slight black tea tone here, coupled with some apricots. Correct acidity to balance the opulent sweetness. A slight bit of funk on the palate as well, but that's probably just an age thing.

July 30, 2017 - brief note. this had mature gold color. acid spine keeps this remarkably fresh. the dominant note i got was roasted pineapple. wow was this nice - RS mostly resolved and acids present but perfect balance. plenty left in the tank too. thanks mike!
