March 9, 2024 - Method: Pop (Coravin) and pour; Cab glass; chilled

Look: deep purple with slight lavender rim

Nose: candied lavender, dark raspberry pie filling, blackberry, bit of plain beef jerky

Palate: candied lavender, raspberry, raspberry pie filling; long+ finish candied lavender, leather, light roast beef, dried herbs; low- sweetness; medium+ plush body; high- drying tannins, especially on the finish; medium+ acidity

Overall thoughts: Expressive and there's some good stuff going on here, but I'm not sure all quite comes together. Tannins are surprisingly unpleasant, and there's a surprising just slightly sweet sensation (although, I'm not saying there's RS). Considering the concentration and tannins, I think this can probably age quite a bit longer, and may even be in
a bit of a in between spot for my tastes. Good wine.

December 1, 2022 - Opened and poured - paired with sausage lasagna. Very dense, purple and full bodied. A bit tart at open. Full profile of purples, blues and inks - blueberry, blackberry, ethanol, creosote and varnish, and on the tongue, tangy fruit leathers, spice and zest. Continued to be tangy and pungent, with sour cherry notes and puckering fruits. I would prefer a bit more sweetness to offset the tang, and not sure if this will come around to that or not during its evolution.

August 26, 2021 - This was one of the red wines I served for my annual WWC hosting.

As all wines are tasted blind, I totally get the guesses of Cayuse-like Syrah. The 100% whole cluster use here is undeniably distinct. For the most part, it seems to be a love it or hate it style (I love it). By the time we all got to this, it had been in the glass 1-2hrs. Deep purple, with massive stemmy/green aromatics that hit you in the face. Wintergreen notes, too. On the palate, it’s funky, herbal, spice driven notes wrapped around underripe blackberries and rhubarb. This is a floral, savory, spicy Syrah at 8yrs that seems crazy youthful. Likely hangs in this window for a while. Bravo, Mike Smith.

July 8, 2021 - This has come together since my cautious note from two years ago. Still some grip. 92

June 27, 2021 - I didn't take notes when this was consumed, but it was very good after pop and pour and it improved until we finished it over the next 3 hours. Darker fruit (maybe black plum) with a lot of dried herbs and pepper. Very nice mouth feel (like all Mike's wines). If I took notes and gave it a score, it probably would've landed around a 90 - 91, give or take.

I'm not sure where this wine will go from here, but I think it has a lot of life left.
