Community Tasting Notes 10

March 22, 2015 - This wine has emerged from the big sleep. However it is for old Rhone afficianodos not generally appealing. We tried this along side some classic burgundy, half its age and it is completely different. Maderised but with good acidity. It is not a powerful wine and needs careful pairing with food. Huge complexity for those willing to explore it.

February 4, 2012 - Rather dull and flabby. Quite disappointing

September 19, 2010 - Very good and not what I was expecting...deep gold colour, slightly oxidised on the nose but none of the camembert / synthetic truffle aromas I was expecting. Surprising lack of acid on the palate but all in all hugely enjoyable.

August 8, 2010 - Grand Blanc at Aquarelle French Restaurant (Austin, Texas): This bottle did not show well, and we have had much bottle variation with this wine. At a salon Rhone rouge tasting six months ago, this wine drunk during an intermission was stellar—but for this salon it was clumsy and acidic, seemed in decline; another bottle of 2000 previously opened was oxidized. But this wine can be quite good. Our tasters here found it bland, more interesting on the nose than the palate, where it was more mineral than fruit, with campfire, smoke, cedar, wax candle notes. Not by any means a bad drink, but lacked the marsanne and rousanne fruit character which other bottles have had.

August 8, 2010 - A little oxidised - or maybe still in its big sleep. But full and vanilla almond flaoured. Went very well with Goat cheese mousses with truffle honey
