September 24, 2021 - Third note, have drank one 2009 HoS per year for five years - this is the first bottle where it feels it is entering maturity. Terroir coming into focus as tannins have integrated. Excellent. Glad to have a case+ remaining.

February 29, 2020 - Medium-to-full bodied, equally rustic and modern. Massive nose, massive entry on the palate. Today it’s as monolithic as the granite is comes from. Bright red berries alongside ferrous granite soil, sous bois, gritty cacao. With 90 minutes of air the notably absent finish begin to swell to match the power of the body, so definitely let it breathe.

Had a 2005 HoS a few weeks ago — that was entering peak form, but this 2009 may need a few years yet to loosen up. It will be long lived. 91-92 with upside. Bottle #1242 of 1500

PS: had spent the afternoon tasting 80+ young Brunellos, Barolos, Super Tuscans and this was still by far the biggest, most mouth-coating wine of the day.

December 14, 2018 - Decanted. Opened well and then closed down. Possibly flawed?

August 13, 2018 - cool granite nose followed by dense, mouth-filling palate (13.8% abv); fruit, dark rock, and smoke come and go, creating a wine that changes seemingly with each sip; tannins actually seemed to firm up, not soften, with time in decanter, this wine will be something in 5+ years; delicious and complex, anyone looking for a wine of terroir in California has come to the right place

November 23, 2017 - PnP immediately the nose and palate are rich, nearing opulent. Dark and earthy, with uplifted berries you can feel between your teeth. Firm structure. Complex. 2009 seems an expressive vintage for Clos Saron. Ready to drink today (with air) and into the 2030s. Ended up purchasing a case. Highly recommended.
