August 20, 2022 - Opened for 20 minutes and the nose is showing beautifully. Plum, leather, thyme, roasted chicken/duck.

July 2, 2022 - Rich, delicious dark raspberry/blackberry fruit with smokey and gamey flavors, excellent structure, long finish, surprisingly good, Cayuse style

    May 8, 2022 - Consistent with my previous note (Jan 27, 2022)

My final bottle of this superb CDP which continues to impress at over 21 years of age. Popped and poured for dinner, served alongside roasted duck, and paired superbly.

Again, as with the previous bottle, great complexity on the nose, with game, leather and herbs. In the mouth - Superb structure, tannins still have a solid presence and required 30 minutes in the glass to round out, suggesting there's still a few more good years on this wine. Delicious, round, juicy and harmonious, this CDP is still performing extremely well.

If you have them, you should start drinking up, because it's singing now, but I still think this will perform well over the next 2-3 years before it begins to decline.

    92 points, again...

March 1, 2022 - Last of 12, opened 2 hours, perfect cork and level, back almost to the form of 1/19 bottle, nice pepper edge to ripe but fresh fruit, no upside but no rush based on this bottle, nevertheless considerable bottle variation now, cf last March's tired bottle. F (17.5).

(Chante le Merle BOSQUET) Rhone Magnum Dear Friends, Just confirmed, more surprises from our new stash of Rhones - a beautiful parcel of magnums directly from the source. If you are looking for old-school impact and layers of flavor waiting to gain kirsch-laced complexity, this is your treat. Closing in on their 6th generation of winemakers, the Boiron’s continue to put out some of CdPs greatest wines with little or no attention - just how they want it. The 2001 Chante Le Merle is another example set to age like a classic late 1970s example of Chateauneuf du Pape and it would not surprise me if it turns out to be one of the best wines of a great vintage. Like the 2004, this wine is not about oak or overdone, pumped up fruit - this is about classicism and the heavenly blood-like sap that only old-vine Grenache from this area can provide (with an important percentage of Syrah et al). If you are looking for an affordable alternative to the ultimate classic expressions like Rayas, in large format, this is really going to be something at a future important event in 2020 and beyond. If you have a special birth year as 2001, this would be a very good wine to put away for a 21st birthday and the cost is more than reasonable for a magnum: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ONE SHIPMENT ONLY with perfect provenance directly from the source 2001 Bosquet des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape “Chante Le Merle” Vieilles Vignes 1.5lt Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone8060
