  August 22, 2020 - Interesting red Bordeaux blend (Cab Franc & Merlot) with subtle flavors & aromas. Not what one would expect from a typical red blend. The taste seemed a bit off, but nevertheless the wine offered enough to be enjoyed.

  November 4, 2017 - Tasted at winery in Middleburg. We've had prior vintages of Topiary and found the bitter eucalyptus in the nose and palate unique and interesting. However, when compared to the other Boxwood wines, which have come along way and taste like entry-level Bordeaux blends, the Topiary actually comes across as pretty funky. The distinct flavor doesn't bother me, but I can easily do without it.

  March 5, 2016 - My limited experience with red wines from Virginia leads me to believe there is a common thread of terroir influenced aromas and flavors. This particular Virginia red blend has as much mineral intensity as almost any wine I have ever tasted. Relatively unique, rich Cabernet Franc like aromas with minerals, mushrooms, and dirt with dark fruit. Deep purple color, but not opaque. The blue fruit is hiding behind some rustic wet earth flavors. Enhancing wet leather, vegetative, and graphite flavors.
