December 26, 2018 - Slo-ox for one hour. Aromas of dark red and blue fruits, earth, and a touch of smoke. The medium palate shows these same dark red and blue fruits, earth, and some spice. The acidity is relatively balanced, and the tannins are integrated. Not sure it will develop any further, so drink up in the next few years.
Overall, an interesting syrah from Napa Valley, but without the presence we find in syrahs from Paso or even Sonoma (RRV). Drank this head-to-head with the Terry Hoage Hedge Syrah '11 and it could not compete.

December 8, 2018 - Very earthy and smoky. Almost black in color. Deep, complex taste much easier to drink 1 hour after opening.

April 24, 2018 - 2012 was a good year for Hess, and this wine did not disappoint. Dark wine. Complex aroma of fruit and oak. Excellent flavors of blueberry and plum, plus leather, spice, black pepper, and a hint of jerky. Medium acidity, medium finish.

April 20, 2018 - Drinking beautifully, it’s got great fruit a bit of spice and it’s still carrying some good tannin.

September 8, 2017 - Deep dark color, glass staining legs, a little sweet with flavors of dark purple and blue fruits. Slightly subdued nose and good mouthfeel. Reminds me of a wine made by the Wagner family.
