Community Tasting Notes 5

December 28, 2014 - Brooding and quite hot. All my other Elk Cove 2004s are quite silky and integrated. Not this one! Cola, rhubarb, sour cherry palate. Cherry and pine on the nose, light tobacco and spice too.

April 6, 2009 - Notes from being open for 3 hours. On the nose there was black cherry, forest floor, and a little spice. On the palate black cherry cola, mushrooms, earth, a little milk chocolate, with spice on the tail. The finish was above average in length. Overall a nice pinot. 50+5+12+17+7

August 7, 2007 - Wow - even better than I recall from tasting at the winery. A hint of pinot funk, layers of spice (nutmeg, sandalwood, white pepper), soft fruit and wonderful balance.

January 19, 2007 - Pinots from around the World (Crown Wine Cellars, Hong Kong): A little heat on the nose. Strawberries and earth, long finish. Still quite tight but has opened a little but still needs time. Was probably dragged down a little by the other wines!

April 26, 2006 - Elk Cove dinner (Crown Wine Cellars, Hong Kong): This was 'clean' and fresh. It was muscualr in a lean way and tight, not giving much away at this stage. Well balanced though with hidden fruit and the structure to hold it.
