January 13, 2023 - From a good looking MW bottle, pleased with the colour even just looking though the bottle. Confirmed in the glass with that clear bright red colour. Shockingly youthful overall. Wafts of bright red and black cherry fruit. Highly expressive and floral but also has a concentrated and powerful core. Real purity, cleanliness and freshness. Stunning. Still has oak polish on it. Reductive even. Vibrant fruit on a sensational palate. Some Rouget tomato shows. Booming but also charming. Still tight in ways, impossibly young. Superb. Very happy. 96 - 97.

May 15, 2021 - From a nice looking bottle with a 4 cm fill, this wine had a deep red center and orange/light orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose developed over the course of 4+ hours of air to put forth black cherries, figs, tan spices, clove, and some rhubarb.

In the mouth, this wine was quite refined and a bit shy at first. As it aired, its flavor impact improved substantially. While light bodied, this had a lovely intensity and balance that was extremely impressive. The finish was super long.

This bottle was in the early part of its drinking window. It had a darker, more intense fruit profile but that seemed oddly attractive. This producer's Echezeaux doesn't tend to get big scores from the critics in many vintages because they are so balanced and integrated that they don't appear dramatic. They are more sophisticated and classy. This wine had a wild edge to it that propels it to the next level.

I saw Henri's hand in this wine. Drink over the next 10+ years. Very impressive for an 88!

June 25, 2017 - gave a couple hours air and served at cellar temp.

this is not a flashy wine, it's very subtle. the nose is not thrilling, nor is the initial attack. where this wine gets interesting is on the mid and finish. the finish is profound and seamless. this drinks really well with or without food. is it worth the price; certainly not. but it is pleasing.

September 20, 2014 - HDH Auction (Restaurant Tru, Chicago, IL): I didn't get much time with this, but look, I'm not a huge fan of the 88's. The nose on this is killer: classic mature top-end Red Burgundy: stewy, meaty, tomato and strawberry, This has the most amazing spices - really multi-dimensional and perfumed, with great secondary aromas. The palate, on the other hand, doesn't live up to the nose: bitter cherry, tart, with some fruit and spice. It's taut and lean, very classic in profile and if the volume just filled out a bit, it would be great. Not easy for me to rate. Nose - 5.5-6/6, Palate - 4.5-5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 15.5-17.5/20.

September 20, 2014 - Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL): Open several hours before serving, but not decanted. Mature dark berry aromas and flavors with subtle Asian five spice, floral hints, forest floor and sauteed mushroom. Very good depth and layers of flavors. Still has upside from here. Bottle in perfect condition.
