April 29, 2024 - Almost 16 months since our previous bottle and this bottle was just as enjoyable. At worst, the dark red fruits faded just a touch, while the earth notes increased a touch. Pretty sure the wine will continue to hold, but why risk it? Enjoy it in the next year or so.

January 4, 2023 - Decanted for 30 minutes but continued to improve with more air. The color was a medium violet. Dark red fruit, earth and floral notes on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed lots of dark red fruits and spice, some earth, and a streak of bright red cherry. The acidity was just enough to balance and any tannins were completely integrated. A fine example of an aged W-S Pinot that should hold for at least another few years.

January 31, 2021 - First 90 minutes it had a really weird funk. Not like the barnyard funk but something more like coral and almost like a tide pool during low tides. That was really odd. Something that I had never smelled in a pinot before. It then slowly opens up. 2+ hours later notes of fig, candied cranberries, and baking spice. Fruit up front, earthy mid, with a blend of the two for the tail. At 3+ hours you can feel the balance between fruit, earth, and floral notes. Just a lovely tail that goes on and on. The acidity will also make it match up and stand up with lots of different foods and just keeps you coming back for another sip. For my next bottle, think I will just let it breath for 2.5 hours before starting the meal and it will be singing all the way through.

December 26, 2020 - As they age, some bottles of WS pinots loose their cherry flavors which are replaced by a dry fruit, prune like profile. This bottle was one of those. That being said, this was a fully mature, complex bottle of wine; a perfect accompaniment to a roast chicken dinner. My last Olivet Lane and a beautiful way to close it out.
