Community Tasting Notes 4

February 9, 2019 - You know what you are getting yourself into when you open one of these. Serve a bit colder due to the alcohol. Black cherry, red cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant, damp earth, and flowers on the nose. Blackcurrant, black cherry, tart cherry, plum jam, earth, alcohol spice, herbs, and a little vanilla on the palate. Good acidity, slightly firm tannins, long-ish finish. This is good in that huge, fruit-forward Bevan way, but the noticeable alcohol unfortunately is a bummer.

January 1, 2019 - Popped and poured. Powerful nose of ripe cherry, hint of flowers. The palate is black fruited fairly full bodied with robust flavors of black cherry, earth and spice. This has decent balance despite the high alcohol levels and good albeit straightforward finish. Very well made but this is built a bit like a cab lacking the elegance and subtlety of the best pinots.

February 17, 2017 - Big and plush with cherry and blueberry, well integrated tannins and a brass-knuckle-like punch of alcoholic heat on the finish. Those who like huge, fruity pinots and don't mind the heat will like this better (perhaps much better) than me. The quality of the fruit is excellent in a concentrated way but will not be long-enough lived to integrate the excessive oak or ever tame the heat. Lacks acid too. Decanting didn't help. It was better on the cooler side. Keep away from matches.

May 4, 2016 - From memory-at Pogos tasting. Different than 2014. Definitely more black fruits with some added spice. Still thick with lots of tannins and oak. A bit more complex than 2014 but still not for me.
