May 15, 2021 - This one was a bit odd getting going. At first, there was a lot of cigar ash, smole, and overripe figs on the nose and entry. An hour later, this wine improved significantly. The last time I sat down with this bottle was almost 3 years ago, and seemed to think that this one had a very significant "purple" fruit and black fruit character up front but didn't seem to be as balanced. Definitely is not this more youthful profile now (at all). But, the balance and the structure of this wine is definitely there vs November 2018. Dark plums, figs, black licorice, black pepper on the finish. Herbal, a little coconut and sandalwood. Softening tannin on the finish. Finish is still more delicate as I noted in 2018 but there seems to be quite a bit more there. I gave this a 91 back then and I will say that for sure the 91 still stands. Last one of these for me.

November 29, 2018 - Served from Coravin. I can see why the average CT for these wines hovers around a 91. This wine seems to drink in 'reverse.' Has a powerful purple and black fruit opening, but then really thins out quite a bit to a sweeter purple fruit and fig-rich finish. Definitely not a bad wine. Almost wondering if I didn't open this one too early, but not so sure as this one sort of has somewhat of a tart fruit finish. Not that it wasn't an enjoyable tart finish, but not what I was expecting. Just seemed to be all over the place. Would I kick this one out of bed for eating crackers? Naa....I'd probably eat a few myself. I think this wine showed better at the winery. If you have these, I really can't tell you whether or not I'd drink or hold....a little confused by this one! Might be worth popping the cork on the remaining half of the bottle, re-corking in an hour and coming back to the remainder tomorrow!

March 14, 2018 - Dark wine, nearly black. Nose of dusty black fruit, cola, and chocolate. Cherry cola on the palate and acai. Needed some time to open up but almost became more firm and tannic. Still a beast of a wine at 5 years. Classic relic wine that is consistently delicious.

November 11, 2017 - The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry and black currant (cassis). It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis) and fig. The body is medium/full. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.
