April 4, 2024 - Colgin Dinner (RPM Seafood - Chicago IL): Rich black cherry and plum with black pepper and clove. Dense and meaty, this was certainly easy to enjoy, but slightly lackluster compared with the Colgin Cabernet blends earlier in the dinner. This was described as Colgin's interpretation of Côte-Rôtie, which made me think 2-3% of Viognier would add something bright and more nuanced here.

April 2, 2023 - Wow, best bottle I’ve had of this vintage. Just coming into its sweet spot, I guess. The two previous bottles weren’t on the same level. The nose on this bottle was enticing and hauntingly beautiful. A few more years and I can only imagine how great this win will become. Still had a slight bit of austerity but a delightful drink non the less. Great acid and mature fruit. Wish I had more!

February 14, 2023 - In my quest to lose weight, I have drastically cut back on wine consumption for the past 6 months. But when the Boss told me that she'd like a nice wine on to go with the rack of lamb I was preparing for Valentine's Day, I decided to open the 2013 Colgin Syrah IX Estate.
Anyway, I know this is a lousy tasting note, but I'm feeling lazy. Suffice it to say that it was stupid good even with a short 30 minute decant.
I'll get back on the weight loss wagon in the morning, but the Colgin was worth the diversion. -

July 7, 2019 - Benchmark California Syrah that doesn’t disappoint. Reminds me of SQN, rounded black fruit and licorice aroma, pepper/ spices and a very long finish.
