Community Tasting Notes 11

April 22, 2024 - I get why this is the elevated cuvée - olives and meat aromas on the opening, but the first tastes are pretty blunt and monolithic. I thought it might be a little to simple but then it comes more alive after 2-3 hours. Even without the decant it still went well with striploin and spicey collard greens. Will last a long time. Good value.

January 27, 2024 - what a wonderful syrah that is drinking great right now! cherry, dark berry, pepper, earth, and savory notes. soft tannins with ample acidity. no new oak to ruin the varietal characteristics. super enjoyable!

June 23, 2023 - A large scaled and brooding wine as others have previously noted. Could use some more time I think

December 23, 2022 - This is a beautiful wine, everything I look for in a St Joseph. Not for those who like light wines, this is big and delicious.

July 22, 2022 - Darker, riper, burllier, and perhaps a smidge more rustic than I was expecting. After 4 hours, what starts out as a hint of tasteful VA blossoms into slightly more obtrusive band-aid brett. Plenty of tension, smoke, olive and savory herbs, but the ripe quality of the blue/black fruit feels almost American (albeit restrained American, a la Lagier Merideth or Bien Nacido X Block). Needs time, for sure. Hoping this blossoms with a few more years. Next bottle in a couple years.
