    April 1, 2024 - Château Haut-Batailley Pauillac GCC 2014 (13.5% ABV)

It would be presumptuous and also not entirely correct to claim that the wine has not developed since my last bottle in July 2020: The tannins are less harsh, but the acidity is still quite dominant P&P at around 16°, so there's no need to worry about its longevity. The nose and palate are still dominated by cigar box, with oak now taking centre stage over tobacco and cedar. Leather, now no longer freshly tanned, but rather old saddle leather. Stony notes and graphite on the mid and back palate. There was never much fruit, nor is there now. This is a soldierly Pauillac, somewhat rustic. Smoky as ever on the long finish, not bad at all if you like that smokerrooms' mouthfeel - but this will probably never match the elegance of the GPL (see my note one month ago about GPL 2012) from the same house back then (now part of Lynch Bages' ownership). 90(+)
It will be worth following the wine over the next few days...

March 2, 2024 - Luxurious bouquet with dark berries, beautiful oak and cedar and some graphite. Good and fresh acidity and firm but round tannin. Lovely wine in a nice drinking stage when you like your wines fairly young.

February 16, 2024 - In the bouquet dark berries, good oak, graphite and plums. On the palate a firm textbook Pauillac with good acidity and firm tannin with a good bite. Some bell pepper as well. Good length. The wine is in its young maturity stage.

December 7, 2023 - Decanted 1 hour ahead. Reticent nose with black fruits, cedar and a touch of graphite on the nose. Medium-bodied wine with smooth tannins. Pretty classic if understated Pauillac profile. Smooth, balanced finish. My first of 10 bottles purchased on release and stored at 55 degrees. I think this is at the beginning of its drinking window and should remain there for another 10 years. 92 points

September 25, 2023 - Solid cost performer and drinking well right now.
