  May 15, 2022 - Charity Wine Function for Whatcom Hospice House (Samish Hill, Bellingham, WA): Not bad for a 142 year old. Cloudy and brown; I wasn’t careful enough with the pour. Baking spices, caramel, dried figs and dates. Nice length and complexity. A slight whiff of VA. All in all, a beautiful wood aged port.

  July 18, 2020 - Saturday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): The nose here is clearly one of very old wine; there is rancio, dried figs and dates, nuts, and all sorts of browned things here. The palate is sweet, but not incredibly so, and there is an immense amount of complexity and concentration here. A very long wine, with plenty of spice notes as well, and while the alcohol is obviously high, this feels very well integrated, as it should be, I suppose, after 140 years.

  December 25, 2019 - A few from the XIX century (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. No one is confusing this for Madeira -- I think it's the acid profile that is the most distinguishing element. A good amount of rancio with some nice orange peel, brown spice, and a few touches of nutty flavours. The palate isn't too heavy, and it seems that age has pared down a lot of the prickly elements that the fortification tends to bring. Caramelly but not too sweet. The oldest port I've had; if they do age into things like this, I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for more examples.
