Community Tasting Notes 5

April 5, 2019 - #tcastudy (should have been old Prum night): Corked, and generally flat and dull. Ugh. I've been fortunate to have a pristine bottle of this once (which was amazing) so this was a heartbreaker.

April 5, 2019 - TCA (Prüm) study (Chicago, IL): #03-77, 10% abv. Weak and dull. Acid, but not much else; then the TCA started showing up.

October 24, 2015 - Grand Sich excess: Seth describes this better than I can. This was an absolutely incredible bottle. Unbelievably light and delicate, yet showing remarkable freshness and intensity of flavour at 40 years. The red and green apple fruit here still feels remarkably fresh, and there's an array of floral, talc, mineral, herbal, and other savoury and smoky notes augmenting the fruit. It comes across just barely off-dry with a faint suggestion of sweetness balanced by the bright acids, and the length is remarkable as it seems to get longer and brighter with air. Unfortunately the bottle itself didn't last as long - three of us emptied it in very little time. Truly amazing wine.

October 24, 2015 - I was skeptical at first - it seemed a bit lean and lacking, but about 15 minutes warmed it up and it opened up perfectly. Light but multi-dimensional nose with patisserie, smoke, apples, herbs, cinnamon, baked apple, spices, and chalky minerality. Gossamer and light. Palate enters light with gentle sweetness, serious acidity, lots of apples - green and a bit of red, more patisserie. So light with near perfect balance, a bit if citrus/acid. The finish is tart, with just a bit of sweetness, then lime, apple, spice, and minerals. This is old school and fabulous. The best damn Kabinett I've ever had. Thank you Salil! Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5-5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 2/2 = 18.5-19/20.

February 13, 2007 - Gut erhaltene Flasche fast ohne Schwund, Korken allerdings weitgehend durchsogen. Ex-Icono, offen. (89/100)
