September 15, 2020 - I had moved all of my El Nido off site so it’s been awhile - back from the dead and the evolution is astounding; on PnP this is reserved - a little broody and fruit is just a backdrop: palate is all slate, graphite, and a hint of pepper. After an hour decanting this is now an expansive universe of raisin, licorice, and stewed berry. Tremendous. Intoxicat(ed)ing at 16% but doesn’t have that heat. I’m unabashedly in love and a bit regretful that I stayed away so long. Admittedly, this thing is a bit oak heavy, but didn't stop the immense satisfaction for me. A biased 98, a more realistic 96, will split the difference.

December 31, 2019 - This is a big wine that's got plenty of life to go, but is drinking superbly now. I decanted this wine for 2+ hours prior to serving along side a 2010 Bevan Cellars Sugarloaf Mountain Proprietary Red. The El Nido did not have the same robust nose as the Bevan Cellars, however I thought it was a bit more complex with a richer experience.
Nose is comprised of black cherry, floral, anise, mint and baking spices. This is a well structured and balanced wine with soft tannins that provide a smooth long finish. On the palate I received black cherry, blackberries, black raspberry, floral and anise notes with a slight spice note on the finish. Dark fruits on the palate. This wine paired extremely well with a grilled marinated Tri-tip. This is a winner! -

October 30, 2019 - Still young, big and tannic. Drinkable now with air, but can easily take another 5 years in the cellar. Nose is dominated by floral character. Licorice and mint as well. Soft tannins. Dark fruits on the palate. Medium acidity. Long, somewhat hot finish (not surprising given 16% ABV)!

July 8, 2019 - 95+ 70% Cab, 30% Monastrell; could never pick this out as an old world wine - composed, smooth, licorice, cassis, black cherry, stewed fruit. Effortless and powerful. I really do adore this wine.

May 6, 2019 - Food pairing - burned meat on the grill. Spiced plum fruit. A bit much.
