March 10, 2024 - Dark purple in appearance. Aroma of dark fruits and leather. Flavours of black berry, leather, smoke-char and spicy oak, with a medium-long medicinal herbal aftertaste. The leather become increasing pronounced over time. It has medium-high tannin, low-medium acidity and is full bodied wine (ABV 14.5%). The wine is generally well integrated. Decanted for an hour and drank over 3 hours.
This is a gran reserva. I can’t say that there is anything wrong with it and I do not dislike it. At the same time, it lacked complexity and was missing the expressiveness of the terroir — I was hoping for more character from this wine. I had similar, if not better, Malbec at a lower price point without the gran reserva tag and hefty bottle. -
