  December 25, 2021 - My son and daughter-in-law brought this over for Christmas. What a wonderful treat! Burgundy simply does not get any better than this: A mellow tawny-amber color, light but beautiful. It was fully mature, but no sign of being too old, it can go on for many years if stored correctly. A fabulous red fruit bouquet, complex and giving the impression of late summer in the cherry orchard. Smooth as silk, no discernible tannin remaining, full in the mouth and very intense, remarkably still bursting with red fruit -- again, cherries come to mind. An impression of sweetness in the mouth, though I'm sure there was no residual sugar. A long, complex finish that invited the next sip. This is why we age burgundy -- every so often you find a bottle like this: a grand cru, from a great year, hand-made with love by a great winemaker. This made me think of the saying attributed to Ben Franklin: "Wine is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." I can't give it enough accolades, a wine for the ages, one I will always remember. Just a reminder that nothing compares to a great burgundy.

  December 8, 2020 - There is absolutely nothing grandiose about this ‘85 Charmes; it is the antithesis of big and bold. Nonchalant and understated, this ancient vine CC is all about effortless class. It is elegant and delicate, yet deeply expressive showing pure and persistent fruit with minéralité on the illustrious bouquet.
  
  Amazingly the palate was still pretty tight about two hours after having been opened. I took the bottle home at the end of the evening and enjoyed the last four ounces. I was shocked that it took about five hours to reveal the most intense and concentrated flavors of raspberry and crushed strawberry with a melange of truffle, earth, crushed granite, meat and spice on the silky, suave finish. A sublime experience testament to the provenance of a well stored original owner purchase. Nobody makes Charmes-Chambertin like Denis Bachelet.

  July 8, 2011 - Attractive wine certainly but very delicate, tender and soft. It shows that Charmes-chambertin is lovely but noting compared to the Cham or Beze in general.

  February 9, 2011 - Black fruit and great spice on the nose with some complementary mushroom aromas. Incredible balance of black fruit, meaty flavors, reduced mushrooms, truffles, and dried herbs on palate. Long, textured and perfectly balanced through the long finish.
