May 4, 2024 - A great character! Strong nose of oriental medicinal dried herbs, sweet leathery fruits! Dark colour and a slightly dry palate, a little spicy, a medium finish! A nice and a decent wine! Definitely not a fruit bomb!

March 8, 2024 - Stored in a cold cellar since release. Deep colour. Some sediment in bottle.
Blueberry, blackcurrant bouquet. Real depth, full bodied, powerful with good length. Some tannins. Remarkably young. Some complexity. Years of life left but hard to say how it will develop or improve. Unexpectedly good for a supposedly left bank vintage.

May 22, 2023 - All wine, no poker, Vol. 2 (Needham, Mass.): Thanks to Mitch: By happy coincidence, we had two 1996 wines at the end of our lineup of reds, both of which (the Vina Ardanza Reserva and this one) seemed strikingly youthful. This is a classic, highly structured claret, with flavors of mint, dill and leather, and a suggestion of a lurking richness that has not yet emerged. The moderate tannins and acidity mean that it is very drinkable now, but it still has a long way to go. I feel better about my decision to ignore the Bordeaux futures market every time I taste a 27-year old wine that isn't ready yet -- I'm getting too old for this game.

March 25, 2021 - Really enjoyable wine. Still very much alive and drinking well. I have a number of bottles remaining and will not be rushing them as I hope it will continue to evolve and offer pleasure. Interestingly, I finished this bottle off the next day, and it hadn’t turned at all, which I tend to think is a good sign for longevity.

December 1, 2019 - Bright red in the glass with a touch of bricking at the edge.
Fruit at the forefront on the nose. Loads of blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, and not much else upon opening.
Silky on the palate, with low to medium acidity and moderate tannin. Very pure and focused, but not cerebral. Lots of fruit and highly pleasurable. Good to go now and will last for at least a few more years.
