Community Tasting Notes 3

April 28, 2016 - Caramel brown color; a bit of furniture varnish and a bit of oxidation on the nose but then on the palate gives up rich, almost buttery notes and an impression of old ripe cherry fruit, molasses, creme brulee on the palate with good mid-palate depth and nice concentration and decent length. Nose = not so good; palate = much better. excellent wine to drink on a Thursday afternoon, but the 1934 Lupe Cholet NSG was overall superior. Go figure.

February 18, 2011 - Tar, leather, integrated mature wine flavors. Forest floor and barnyard notes. What a delight! Who would have thunk a 50+ year old Burgundy would have held up like this. Made a great argument for mature elegance and class over youth and power (tasted next to a number of first growth Bordeaux from 1995). It did NOT fall apart in the glass immediately. Got a bit better the first 20 minutes and then after about an hour began to fall off significantly (whereas, even if it was good, I expected it to fall apart within 15 minutes).
