March 4, 2022 - This bottle was surprisingly good, considering that 1) the drinking window allegedly closed 11 years ago, 2) the fill was just below the neck, and 3) the cork was completely saturated. Nonetheless, the wine still had good purple-red color and the taste was mellow and interesting. There was more smoke than wood, and a fair amount of acidity and Cabernet flavor, which many say is like various berries or fruits, but which I say is a flavor unto itself, and certainly not like the Welch's grape juice (from Concord grapes) that I was raised on. This was one of my favorite wines back in the 90's. It is clearly not as bright as back then, but still quite unique and enjoyable.

February 1, 2018 - California Dreaming (Mark's Duck House, Falls Church (VA)): At 12.4% alcohol, it proved to be the lightest of the California Cabernets we enjoyed this evening. It started out smoothly enough, with pleasing notes of black olive and baked fruit albeit with tannins just a bit rusty, even if somewhat sweet. And it seemed to fade more quickly than the others. Overall, about as far and away as one could get from a "Big Cab".

November 23, 2016 - For Liz's 32nd birthday and drank beside a 1984 Insignia and was outclassed by the Insignia. This wine was bricked but picked up color and some depth with air. Cherry fruit is definitely fading with acidity taking over but still pleasurable in a decidedly pinot-like wine. Long tart finish. No tannin in sight. Drink up.

August 2, 2014 - Medium to dark ruby color. Typical Silver Oak nose of oak/vanilla and a hint of clove. Palate is fairly rich with red fruit, spice and some chocolate. Moderately long aftertaste. Not likely to get any better but not in rapid decline either.

June 1, 2014 - Comparative tasting of two aged 84 Cabs, this was still drinkable although it had diminished color and fruit. That Silver Oak signature oakiness still predominated and stood out over the subdued earthy berry and cedar leathery finish.
