Community Tasting Notes 7

March 9, 2017 - Aromatic nose-honeysuckle, graham cracker, Gewürz-spice. Full, luscious, concentrated. More earthy than I expected though. Notes of stone and bitter fruit pith. There is an awkward, tense undertone of black licorice. Finish of licorice-flavored Neccos. Drink up. Paired with ahi tuna.

February 1, 2011 - Still a good balance of sweet and peppery, but with this bottle, the viscosity was almost overwhelming, too luscious. Slightly too dense and syrupy. Light on acidity.

May 12, 2010 - Light caramel colour: very attractive. Powerful Gewurtz nose: ginger and lychee come to mind. 16% alcohol, but that's not evident apart from the smooth, burnished mouthfeel. Very long finish, lingering pepperiness. As always with Z-H, a very serious wine, with big impact. Yet just scrapinginto oustanding rather than extraordinary, on this tasting: too young? Too old? Lacking a bit of acidity?

February 6, 2009 - Nose of a different class than other Gewurztraminers i've had. Obvious lemon peel, a big minerality and rocks. Insane finish. Really complex, thought provoking wine.

January 16, 2009 - So much for keeping this in the cellar. Intriguing balance of Gewurtz peppery with a touch of sweet. Nice luscious mouth feel. Good finish. Liked this a lot. Should buy more and strive to store for a few years.
