April 13, 2024 - Popped 'n poured. Who knew that a Petite Syrah that was over 20 years old would taste this good? Some of the fruit has died down, and there are some tertiary spice notes that have developed, so it is very different from what it was in its youth, but still a treat to drink this.

    December 19, 2022 - 2 hour decabt.
Deep ruby color; dark fruit nose.
A mother rough around the edges A bit of a disappointment after two decades in the cellar,

October 31, 2021 - Final Wine Tasting Dinner of 2021: A beautiful, pure nose is the most-outstanding feature of this wine. The pure brambly black and purple berry fruit dominate the bouquet, with the oak handling particularly well-integrated. In the mouth, this is slightly opaque, and while not totally monolithic, this is not a nuanced, open wine. In short, it is an excellent example of what excellent PS sometimes offers - huge age-ability, but often with a sense that the wine should be more open. There is very fine class here, with a beautiful suppleness of texture that is beguiling, but it ended feeling just a little too much of the same thing throughout its palate.

June 4, 2017 - Light red in color and a surprisingly low 13.8% ABV. Amazing nose of currants, leather and menthol. Medium body with gobs of acidity. The wine is somewhat lean compared to the Turley Zins of this era but still has great aged fruit flavors that are like a laser beam on the palate. Dried cherries, iron, mint and cassis in spades. Medium length on the finish. In retrospect, had I tasted this blind, I'd have likely guessed a twenty year old Barolo. Fascinating wine that I wish I had more of. Drink over the next decade.
