February 13, 2016 - Intensely mineral, with impressive concentration of fruit. Almost leaves you breathless, still weighs in at only 12,5%.

December 2, 2015 - Made from the local Jura clone of Chardonnay that has red stems, known as "Melon".

Quite rich and concentrated lemon yellow color with pale green highlights. Very ripe and expressive nose with concentrated and slightly sweet-toned aromas of golden apples, some white peach and a hint of smoke. The wine is rich, full-bodied and quite concentrated on the palate with flavors of ripe yellow fruits, apricots, some golden apples, a little bit of honey, a hint of smoky minerality and a touch of flint. The wine is high in acidity, which not only lends great freshness and intensity to the wine, but also makes the mouthfeel surprisingly weightless in relation to the concentrated fruit. The finish is long, fresh and acid-driven with rich, fruity and quite powerful flavors of sweet peach, golden apples, some honeydew melon, a little bit of stony minerality and a hint of sappy herbal tones.

A very nice, pure and fruit-forward Jura white that doesn't show any of that typical oxidative character of traditional Jura whites, but neither is it a simple, lean and straightforward ouillé wine: this is much more concentrated and weighty than your typical Jura Chardonnay, but still typical for the region, very racy and not at all heavy. I'm not sure if this only Bornard style or if it is the variety talking, but if all Melons à Queues Rouges are as bold and rich as these, I can understand why the locals want to consider it as a variety of its own, not just a local synonym Chardonnay.
