May 21, 2023 - Retail $48. Heavy bottle. Under cork. The last bottle we popped of this wine was, well, regrettable, so I decided to pop the last bottle (no, not *that* Last Bottle Wines). Well, this might actually be the *best* bottle of them all. Similar notes and Whoa.

May 19, 2023 - Retail $48. Heavy bottle. Under cork. I have had a few of these now and, for the most part, they have been stellar. This bottle, however, is decidedly golden, a clear indication of some oxidation here. So while I assume that there might be some cork issues here (there also might be a hint of cork taint). All that being said, I love Byron's wines and this is no exception. Sure, there is something going on, but there is still some fruit, hints of oak, and verve.

March 11, 2023 - shared with pat at selkrik manor. i overlooked this wine due to minimal feedback from others. as part of the process of pulling bottles that are at risk of being past their prime, i noticed that the last note on CT mentioned golden color. based on this, i decided that this wine had to be next up. yes, the color is golden but the wine proved to be in sound condition. the wine has mellowed with age. the flavor profile is dominated by vanilla, cream and walnut. minimal oak. nice structure. probably showed brighter notes in its youth but very interesting and enjoyable now. reminds me of Newton. outperforms its price point. considering buying more at a favorable price.

May 20, 2021 - Retail $48. I still can’t believe that Byron Kosuge only makes this singular Chardonnay. As is the case with a number of Pinot producers, their Chards turn out to be every bit as good (if not better). We were contemplating buying some more Chard (2016) from Byron as he had it on sale for a stupid price ($280/case including shipping) and we decided to pop this bottle (albeit a 2014) just to make sure (it was actually just an excuse to open one of Byron’s wines). Whoa. Sure. one of the four bottles we opened was a bit underwhelming, but the other three had been stellar. This might even be a notch above those. Slightly golden in the glass with a rich, unctuous nose of lemon curd, a hint of pear, a subtle oakiness, and a fervent verve. The palate? Holy mother of god. Off the charts. It initially reminded me of a 1er Cru Meursault, but as it warmed, it lost a bit of that luscious fat and morphed into more of a warm-vintage Chassagne-Montrachet. Holy cow, Byron, make MORE Chardonnay!
