November 9, 2023 - This bottle was in excellent shape. Nice with steak. Started to fall a bit flat and hard toward the end of the bottle.

November 19, 2022 - This bottle wasn't as excellent as the prior one, but it was still quite nice. May have been slightly flawed. Three more to go, so we'll see.

September 16, 2022 - Left in a glass for four hours to air.

Medium garnet color with some bricking.

Scent of sweet tobacco, leather, dried thyme, granite, chili flake, violet.

Medium minus body, medium plus acidity.

Dark cherry and dark berry fruit is quite developed, but still there. Some savoriness and tertiary characters - mushroom, forest floor.

Well-integrated tannin, very smooth and silky.

Finishes with fig, olive, sandalwood, graphite, leather, and some umami note.

It doesn't have oomph and it is not that complex. But, it got good acidity, mature fruit, and very interesting tertiary characters. It's a pretty good buy for $22 if you are into old-world wines.

I can see this as a good companion to casual steak dinner. Mushroom sauce, anyone?

March 7, 2022 - Started off very closed down, making me wonder if it was a bit over the hill. But with plenty of air it started to show some nice mature characteristics. Classic although not hugely complex. Nice with hanger steak.

February 3, 2022 - The owner of this chateau is actually from the family of Domaine de Chevalier. It’s located close to Paulliac.

The vineyard is planted to about 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and that’s more or less the blend on this one. Immediate tertiary notes. Earthy, mushroomy with a little spice and wood. Dried fruit on the nose and palate, but fresher on the palate than nose. Still some tannins left, but they’re soft and smooth now-not noticeable with food. Simpler on the palate than the others tonight.
