Community Tasting Notes 40

May 18, 2024 - Lunch at Le petit sommelier from a presumably well-stored local bottle. It did pour a little golden which had me worried, but opened up beautifully with air. This bottle is fully mature with plenty of complex honey notes integrated with the mature fruit, still fresh and lively, but definitely maturing in fruit profile. More advanced than I would have guessed based upon multiple tasty bottles in the US a few years ago.

April 6, 2024 - Ripe fruit: Pear and citus, some matchstick, high density with good length. I like this cuvée, less rich compared to les Caillerets.

March 12, 2024 - Another poor showing from a well stored bottle. Caveat Emptor.

March 5, 2023 - Open, good fruit. Probably lacks a bit in complexity.

March 4, 2023 - 2023 La Paulee Offline with the NYC Crew (The Bar Room at the Modern): I was excited to try this wine as we've had other 14 Ramonets that have been just phenomenal. This wine started out strong, but sort of fell apart toward the end of the night.

The nose had typical Ramonet spearmint, with lemon, apple, and some chalk. On the palate, there was good acidity. Mid palate was a little lacking and finish seemed clipped.

After an hour, the wine started evolving and probably not in a good way. The fruit notes turned into hints of cotton candy and burnt sugar, suggesting perhaps the fruit was very ripe when picked. Acid seemed to fade into the background.

Probably time to drink these up.
