Community Tasting Notes 17

December 18, 2020 - Bright Ruby with a pink rim fading to clear. Bright red fruits on the nose - raspberry and strawberry, mostly, with a hint of game and menthol. Palate is also fresh with low tannins, medium body, and a short aftertaste. As someone else mentioned, this does evoke a Cru Beaujolais in some respects, but without the mineral. I am not generally a fan of Mencia wines, but this was a pleasant surprise. Drink now.

July 3, 2020 - Had this in tribeca restaurant with a dish of lamb.
Nice glass not too heavy fresh fruity and little in the tannins.

April 14, 2018 - Good herbal-accented fruit and nice body but the finish is hot and (surprising given and slightly imbalanced. Hairy, is the term that it evokes.

March 6, 2018 - smells and tastes a lot like gamay/Beaujolais to me, but meatier. Juicy and authentic. 88-89

February 17, 2018 - Possibly opened a little too young, though I don't see this as a long term wine either.

Appealing nose combining red and black fruits, plus smoky tar.

The palate a similar combination, with that tar overly prominent for my liking, though perhaps a year or two more might help? Decent freshness apart from that and background tannins don't get in the way. I sense a little vanilla coming through on the modest finish, though apparently this wine is unoaked.

Slightly underwhelmed by this, not a bad wine at all, but not one I'd be rushing back to try (for the money).
