February 4, 2022 - Decanted 8 hours in advance. Dark yellow. Developed and a bit nutty aromas. After opening oxidized apples was evident (according to the host), but now more dried fruits, orange peel and -marmelade. A touch of maderization is also noted. Tight, dry and extremely concentrated. I guess this will last for another decade.

October 5, 2021 - I believe this wine - which was bought on release - is the wine Nicolas Joly intended it to be. I accept is is not flawed. But by anybody’s reckoning this is not a conventional wine. It is a dry wine made with grapes some (meaningful) portion of which are left to form early stage botrytis. Everything about this wine flows from this. Nicolas Joly believes this level of botrytis is part of the terroir. No note of mine on how any particular vintage is showing or progressing will be helpful. Before making assessments of one vintage over another you have to ask yourself if you like this style. It is pretty binary. Surely not much middle ground here. A wine so different in its definition of what constitutes quality than how common wisdom customarily would define it. I am willing to keep trying Coulee de S in the hope I will one day see the light, but nothing about this wine in vintage 2002 changed my mind. A choice....Bought on release.

June 1, 2020 - last bottle of this, just pnp, very amber color, nose of an oxidative nature, worrying here, however, the flavors and acid balance were perfect, previous bottles have been excellent yet not developed the fruit component like this. Flavor was of light orange marmalade and just hit the spot with a creamy tarragon sauce over chicken. Really a treat and so easy to drink. Acid balance was making the wine sing a truly different note.

November 10, 2018 - Aromas of dried yellow fruits. Later more fresh bread, toast and gunsmoke. Full bodied and expressive on the palate with a sweet-and-sour attack. This wine needs a lot of air.

September 19, 2018 - Consumed over multiple coravin glasses. Toasty amber wheat color. In the nose hints of cloudberry, kumquat, orange skin, and touches of woody nuts.
Palate is still taught and showing some salinity. Dominated by orange marmalade, hints of lanolin, Fino sherry notes, nut oil, wood. Still very intact and showing no signs of age.
