Community Tasting Notes 2

    September 10, 2016 - Can't stop thinking that it is a Souhaut saint-joseph.
Clean bottle, aromatics of the funky olives, charred rustic earth, dark berries, with good acidity. Soft palate, with some tannins at the end. Overall quite good but did not speak to me, don't feel the 'natural' fun but not serious / comtemplative enough either.
Day 2 not much changes, it would benefits some more time in the bottle I would say.

I've wanted to try Hirotake Ooka's St.-Joseph for some time. The nose is lifted and sprightly with Syrah berry fruitiness. The wine has good color but is very light bodied in the glou-glou mold, with cool and subdued but tingly fresh fruit tinged with a slight pepperiness. The finish is 100% carbonic -- scrubby little tannins and telltale grainy/nutty affect -- and nearly ruins the experience. This is light and fresh for the (unrecognized) appellation and it has an interesting character, but it costs as much or more than many excellent St.-Josephs ($43), so I won't be a repeat buyer.
