December 26, 2023 - I enjoyed this very much and was surprised at how good it was. It still has fruit, though it will not be getting any better. No noticeable bricking at the edges. Tannins are fully resolved and it retains the flavor profile of it's younger days and some freshness. I get cigar box which I love, dark fruits and light spice. I has a medium body, less of course than when young. I was happy it didn't feel tired as I had expected and is sometimes the case with wine this old, and it held on for the 2 hours it took us to finish the bottle. My wife, who likes mature wine less than I do, quite liked the wine. As fully aged wine the score would be a 93 or so. This bottle has had good storage and might hang on a while longer but I expect there is nothing to gain from waiting any longer.

September 24, 2022 - 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (EBCC): Blind. Very similar to wine B, though the brettanomyces is more subtle and the herbaceous elements are eucalyptus rather than mint. Medium-bodied. Mixed red and black fruit flavors with a subtle woody/stemmy note. Has a bit more fruit than the preceding wine.

August 13, 2022 - Wow! It's been 6 years since I opened a bottle of this. It's even better than I remember. Still fresh fruit; perfect balance; complex nose of black fruit, raisins, tar, pepper... I'm amazed at how well it's held up after 32 years! It reminds me of what California cabs are capable of!

April 5, 2017 - I have loved this wine in the past for its smoky, mineral, bell pepper side but sadly this bottle doesn't really show that. Instead it's a rather ordinarily mature Rutherford Cab trading out the green bay elements for caramelly old oak.

June 5, 2016 - Ok so I've been drinking a lot of Bordeaux and Burgundy lately. But this wine reminds me of why I love California Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite it's 13.3% alcohol, it has an intense, rich nose and fruit forward palate. Lingering and perfect right now. May have up t 5 more peak years with good provenance. Bravo Freemark Abbey!
