Community Tasting Notes 15

April 9, 2023 - From a magnum, opened for Easter family dinner with waygu.
Decanted and tasted over 6h. Very little sediment (effectively zero).
Notes from initial tasting: Deep ruby in the glass. Nose comes off strong herbal tones of peppercorns and eucalyptus, with black plum, blackberries, and green pepper coming through. Graphite, leather and gravelly earth notes... minimal oak notes. Good acid on the tongue, some rough tannins and an oddly abbreviated finish on initial taste. 91
Update after 3h in air: similar nose perhaps more prominent herbal and plum notes, starting to get a sweet cinnamon note. Also a caramel/toffee secondary note coming through. Finish much better integrated, although tannins are still prominent. Hard to judge aging on a magnum vs standard, but this is nowhere near peak. 750s might be getting close to drinking window but I would hold 1.5L for another 5+y. 92-93

December 15, 2022 - The lady describes it as Ox Blood and Burgundy color as it was poured in the glass. Very Dark but exhibits bright plum color. Dark fruit flavor was beautifully pungent as it was poured as well. Sipped immediately. Very smooth without a hint of burn. Light mouthful but fulfilling. Long finish. Dark fruit from beginning to end. Not a tannic Cab. Very very good wine! Shared with the lady for dinner. Braised duck. Yummy

June 29, 2022 - PNP, followed over two nights. Not much on the nose. Purple fruit, some plum, cassis and blackberry. Chocolate, very slightly bitter. 14.5% but it wears the alcohol well. Big flavor, but not heavy, even fresh. Tannins seem fully resolved. Well made in the modern Napa style. Drink over the next 5-10 years.

May 28, 2022 - Beautiful Cab. Not too sweet and not to dry… great balance. Found on sale for $60. Should have bought a case.
