Community Tasting Notes 8

December 6, 2021 - Opaque dark purple, with just a few tawny glints suggesting approaching age. The nose is immediately seductive: rich berry-liqueur aromas, and a noticeably oak sweetness (which I don't remember from previous bottles.) On the palate there's some spiciness, and just enough acidity to balance the rich fruit. Do I occasionally detect whiffs of decaying undergrowth, suggesting the wine is starting to fall apart a bit? I do. And for a modest St Joseph after seven years that is not too surprising. Having said that, I am enjoying this bottle more than the ones I had a year ago, and two years ago. With some tasty truffle Taleggio. 13%, cork.

May 29, 2021 - Nice.. I like it. Easy drinking Rhone red... St Joseph never disappoints. Paired wonderfully with our spicy biryani meal!

September 11, 2020 - Similar notes to last time, except this evening I am more impressed: silky smooth textures and generous, juicy fruit. It is a bit unfocused - not particularly St Joseph in character - but still very enjoyable and not without class. Cork, 13%.

January 10, 2020 - A youthful, vibrant purple hue. On the palate, some sweet raspberry fruit, though not huge amounts, then into a spicy, dry finish of fairly short length. This strikes me as an acceptable and drinkable Northern Rhone, that lacks the violet aromas and vivacity that mark out the style of St Joseph I like most. Cork, 13%.
