Community Tasting Notes 6

June 3, 2010 - Beautiful floral nose of spring flowers, lilacs and some cut grass shavings. Palate was delicate with lemon, some nuttiness and a beautiful viscocity that quietly exploded the flavors in the mid palate. Fabulous effort.

January 17, 2010 - Very brute and mineral without too much acid. True to type. Made the Californian coastal drunk alongside taste heavy

August 19, 2008 - Crisp and refreshing, with mineral notes and light citrus. Not really green apples but something more like crabapples. Nose is more about ground than fruit and nice finish.

August 30, 2007 - Refreshing nose of minerals, citrus, and tart green apples, with hints of flowers, herbs and toast. Similar on the palate, with the citrus (lemon, orange peel, bit of grapefruit) taking center stage on a surprisingly long, mouth watering finish. Very crisp and fresh -- in this sense, somewhat chablis like (perhaps it's the vintage?). But still decent richness and fruit on the mid palate. Wonderful with food (shrimp & crab ravioli in a lemon-herb butter/parmesan sauce). Might be a bit too tart/acidic without. . . . Well, it's official: As far as chardonnay goes, I have a strong preference for white burgundy over the new world style, even at this price point.
Update: 2nd day detected a very slight "rotten eggs" (sulfuric?) quality on the nose when first opened the (vacuum sealed) bottle. Wore off with a few minutes in the glass. Odd. In general, the wine felt a little less fresh and a bit thinner on the mid palate. Some of this might have had to do with temperature. Served it warmer compared with 1st day. Still very good with food (salmon in butter sauce). . . . 91+ day 1. 88- day 2.

June 22, 2007 - Purchased off the list at Oliveto's. Quick notes: lots of minerality with a sweet sour finish. Fair to Good.
