February 11, 2019 - Wow. Yeah, this drinks well outside its price point. Pours DARK in the glass with a maroon meniscus. Nose of blackberry and mocha. Entry is soft, fruit forward. Dense. Dark chocolate mocha and pepper to the finish. Not overly complex but wasn't really designed to be. Dusty finish as if a large part of this is decommissioned Rutherford fruit. Tannin is soft. Black pepper finish, big on its own and more tame with food. Went well with pulled pork sliders and peppery cole slaw. This is definitely a bottle that is made to pop and pour. But this is well made and the structure is there! The best days of this wine are right now.

August 26, 2017 - Brasswood - Vintner's Vanguard (Saint Helena): In a world amongst $150+ Napa Cabernets, this $35 bugger was a “decent” surprise. Was it epic?…uh, no. Was it captivating?...still no. Was it at least complex and attention grabbing?...not especially. Did it at least not blow a bag of donkey diapers the way the previous 6+ wines tasted before it did? Yes!

So…it was ok. For $35, if you’re having a dinner party at home with a bunch of folks that could care less about the wine you’re serving, you’re guaranteed to impress with a case of this for just a few hundred dollars out of the wallet. Beyond that, save your money. 86-88 points (and about 2 points is because of the QPR).
