Community Tasting Notes 13

April 1, 2022 - Festa del Piemonte: Gala Dinner (The Pool in NYC): The wine gods were clearly not on our side this dinner as one bottle and one mag (this was the mag) ended up corked. Thankfully the other two showed well, but this was a bummer and even more so when we got to try the 2000 from a Luca pour. Can only imagine how good this could have been. Alas that is the breaks when you do the auction approach.

August 30, 2018 - Tasted blind. Floral notes. Highly toned lots of acidity and elegant red fruit. Medium body.

August 15, 2018 - Finally pulled this one out and took it to a family reunion. My niece loves barolo. Despite my fear that it might be over the hill, the nose was excellent and the wine opened up after a few minutes. I don't think this will improve with further age unless one is into tertiary flavors in a big way. No detailed notes. This was a family reunion after all.

June 24, 2016 - The nose opened strangely, revealing notes of crushed seashell and saline-minerality. However, with time, the Rocche evolved with a display of floral undergrowth, brilliant red fruits and fresh green flora. On the palate, it was firm from start to finish, with earthy red fruits and intense minerality. Dried floral tones lingered throughout the finish, along with drying tannin and minerals. I had high hopes for this bottle, but it appears to be in a very closed phase.

June 15, 2016 - 1996 Barolo & Barbaresco Blind (L'Apicio, NYC): [Double decanted at 10am. Cork sucked back into the bottle.] Muted woodsy nose. Tart tannic but also a little cooked? Not a representative bottle, I think.
