Community Tasting Notes 6

May 15, 2024 - Medium (+) ruby to garnet color. Smells like barnyard funk, soil, dark and dark red fruits, graphite, and lemon. Medium body, acid, and finish, with flavors of lemon, red and dark red fruits, minerals and spice. Pretty solid Chianti, especially for the sub $20 price paid. Drank well on the pop and decanted for maybe 30 mins or so before dinner, so not sure how to rectify that with previous reviews. It was flood tonight for us at any rate. 89+

March 21, 2020 - Really bad. Decanted for a long time. Unfortunately, we had to dump it.

September 1, 2018 - This wine tasted pretty awful upon PNP. I am encouraged by the last review. Perhaps a long decant will help. I am wishing I had not purchased a case.

December 15, 2017 - My fifth one in the past few months, and each has been very reductive upon opening. I've learned, over time, to decant this hours or even a day in advance, lest the reduction define the wine. Tonight's bottle was double decanted (for 2 hours) at 1p, then served 4 hours later, and it was fine. Had I tried to drink it as a PnP (the same goes for the preceding bottles), it was largely undrinkable, due to the overt reductive nature. Even better on day 2, where it's a near polar opposite to where this is upon initial cork removal. I loved this at VinItaly (more so given the vintage) but as it is now, it's in a phase or something - or at least my case is. Nonetheless, it's a great, medium-bodied wine with solid varietal typicity and a good sense of place - after it's opened up. recommended
