November 30, 2023 - I decanted for 4hrs. Needs a minimum of 3hrs to open up and blend.

  • Crunge Does not like this wine:

July 21, 2023 - Grenache is my favorite varietal and I've been anticipating this, my first Clos Erasmus.

PnP at cellar temp and it was borderline undrinkable. Strong wood varnish aromas and flavors. Beyond that was tartness and not much else.

After an hour in a decanter, the wood varnish had faded somewhat and there was a touch of cherry trying to come through, although the acid and tartness beat any fruit flavors into submission.

Two hours in and there was still that touch of varnish and almost no fruit. No score as this is clearly not my style. A truly disappointing experience.

December 2, 2019 - Lovely Grenache in a tart style, showing intense cranberry aromas and flavors “packaged” in a lighter, more balanced style. Gains some weight with extended aeration. I picked up all sorts of spicy nuances as the wine opened up. We just got back from Napa/Sonoma and this was an ideal wine to return to...

July 25, 2019 - Not rated, as this is much too young, fairly closed and I was only served a 5 cl coravin pour.

Shows some dark cherries, strawberries and leather on the nose. Palate is balanced, but with tight tannins.

In all honesty, if this was served blind, I would probably just have judged it is a 30 euro Priorat. Not bad at all, but just not that special currently.

Let these rest or give them a long decant.
