Community Tasting Notes 4

December 10, 2022 - Christmas lunch with the wine ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Apricot, orange marmalade made with brown sugar, a little vanilla, toffee, honey. In the mouth it's juicy, a little simpler than the nose implies with a touch more toffee tending to caramel…perfectly pleasant though.

June 1, 2014 - The cork was in pretty weak shape and began to rip using a regular cork screw. But it was nicely extracted using an Ah-So two-pronged cork remover. The wine was amber in color with just the tiniest hint of orange or brown (very slight). The bouquet was a beautiful caramel and yellow pit fruit. On the palate, the wine was sweet enough to be a full forced dessert wine but well balanced by a strong level of acidity. The wine tasted complex with peach and quince. There was just a hint of fusel oil and the botrytis notes were very full-blown. The wine displayed no oxidation whatsoever. It was in very good shape. Although fully mature, the wine was in top form and should hold well for another half a dozen years or more. It was a top performer by any high end Sauternes standard. Excellent mature Sauternes and out-performed the several Bastor-Lamontagne I have had.

July 27, 2009 - Chevillon Dinner, 1990-2002 (Lupa Restaurant, San Francisco): Medium amber color. Good minor Sauternes without distinguishing or memorable features. Dilute in the middle and without grip.

February 26, 2008 - Surprisingly still living its boring life as a simple Sauternes.
