Community Tasting Notes 4

    July 31, 2018 - Supposedly 100% Grenache from 80 yr old vines; 14% ABV; 323 cases made

Had been standing upright for over a day, the cork being pulled ≈1 hr prior to the 1st pour, but NOT decanting -- which I regret as this throws LOTS of sediment. :( Private Preserve used after Day 1.

N: Plums, poss prunes/raisins with notes of spice? Notes of blk cherry cola?

P: MF body; Rndish entry with ALMOST swtish [1 of my relatives mentioned Port-like], olive-tinged frt met by some astringent acidity which DOES (ult) lose its bite by the LONG, decently balanced finish with a pleasurable, almost dense swtness. // Day 2: Softened further, going EXCEPTIONALLY well with some fairly spicy COSTCO "MRE" Chx Enchilladas with SP rice & refritos.

∑: Fully mature in a rich, uber RIPE style, though will likely hold through '19. My VG+, more IF one is an aficionado of such a style.

June 2, 2018 - Decanted for ≈45 min; Private Preserve after Day 1

    N: Ripe, prunes, minerals underneath?

P: LM body; NICE frt on the VERY front though this quickly turns astringent. The predominant theme into & through MOST of the finish is a bitterness which only ULT resolves by the END of the LONG finish. For lack of a better term, this strikes me as the mythical "dry" port, & NOT a particularly desirable wine -- certainly not with tonight's Lasagna in Marinara Sauce. // Day 2: I thought had improved, though a fellow taster felt the opposite. ∑: 14% ABV; My VG-, *poss* VG. [As of mid Jul '19, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $19.].

July 15, 2017 - Game of Rhones (The WineSellar & Brasserie, San Diego, CA): Supposedly 100% Grenache from 80 yr old vines; 14% ABV

    N: Ripe, PRUNISH

P: MF body; Almost swtish, port-like flavors beautifully bal by acidity & SOME sturcture. LONG, ELEGANT, very, VERY slightly bitter finish. Drink now & for as long as it holds, I would THINK through '19. LOVELY stuff! [On 2nd tasting, enough structure for improvement into early-mid '19.] [This vendor's day of tasting 'special" was $24.50.]

February 25, 2017 - Simplemente Vino, A Walk-Around Tasting (The WineSellar & Brasserie, San Diego, CA): Supposedly 100% Grenache from 80 yr old vines; 14% ABV; 323 cases made

N: FRAGRANT notes of smoke atop prunes

P: MF, poss Med, body; Almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which quite works itself out by the LONG finish with minimal, dusty tannins. [As of early Mar '20, wine-searcher shows no available sources for this vintage].
